This week marked the start of G2 Fitness LLC’s Great Burpee Challenge: 30 Burpees for 30 Days (or 900 Burpees in December). Talk about a challenge! Most people either love or hate Burpees… Then there are those like me who LOVE to HATE Burpees. Either way, this challenge is designed to be tough- both physically and mentally- but also completely do-able. Not to mention that after some 900 total Burpees, 30 will probably seem like a joke.
Now to the real question: How does one keep from getting bored after, say, day 3 of this challenge? Well, that’s why G2 Fitness is blogging today!
How We Beat the Bored Burpee:
Well first- you’ve always got the option to just bang out 30 Burpees in one sitting. Just 3-2-1-GO! Not a bad option if you make it your warm-up or your morning eye-opener. You could also just plain make it your workout if you are short on time or are looking for a quick second workout for your 2-a-days.
Then there is the military option… And what I mean by that is to make yourself earn each meal of the day. At Airborne School- we had to do 10 Pull-ups just to get into the chow hall. Then at Sapper School we had to climb a 25 ft Rope. Do the same with your Burpees! 10 before breakfast, lunch and dinner. Or if you subscribe to the 5 or 6 small meals a day theory, break it down to 5 or 6 Burpees.
You could apply the same theory to your nightly regimen of television viewing. While you enjoy your episode of Keeping up with the Kardashians, Sons of Anarchy or Parks and Recreation- use the commercial breaks to knock out 10 Burpees. One half hour episode of you favorite series and your done for the day.
Then there is my personal favorite option. It makes the pain dull, the reps fly, and takes your brain off the fact your doing ANOTHER 30 Burpees today. It’s is the Song option. Choose a song that has a particular word repeated at least 30 times- I.e. “Roxanne” by the Police or “Jessie’s Girl” by Rick Springfield. For whatever reason, songs about names work exceptionally well. Each time you hear the name or word- complete a Burpee. Your 30 Burpees will be done in 3-4 minutes, and you’ll be laughing and smiling the whole time. Just make sure that there are at least 30 repetitions of the word in the song- or just do 2 songs!!
Hopefully this helps make it a little more do-able 🙂
